ECD PROGRAMMES
The absence of quality early childhood interventions can significantly disadvantage children – not
just in the important pre-school developmental phase from birth to six years, but also their capacity
for meaningful growth and success later on in life. Intentional, well-coordinated activities aimed at
early childhood development are fundamental to future success
Osizweni Science Centre addresses early childhood development (ECD) in the Gert Sibande district
in two important ways: by providing children age three to six with access to age-appropriate materials
within the stimulating environment of its Toy Library
and, secondly, through ECD practitioner and parent
workshops that provide practical methods for encouraging optimal development during the child’s
early years.
